At Ramidoro music is not one subject among others: it accompanies the whole path, from Class 1 to Class 8. Children begin young with singing and the recorder, learnt by ear, for the pleasure of making music together. Over the years they learn to read music and to sing in parts, and the music becomes steadily richer and more complex.

From the ear to the instrument

In the early years children sing simple songs and play the recorder all together, imitating their teacher. Then they learn to write and read music, sing in two and three parts, and get to know the instruments of the orchestra. The scientific side of sound is discovered too, for example during physics lessons in the lower secondary years.

Learning an instrument

From Class 4 onwards, taking up an instrument is strongly encouraged. Lessons are held in the afternoon, once a week, with professional music teachers chosen for each instrument, so that every child is taught by someone who really knows that instrument. It is a commitment that brings great satisfaction and that, over the years, finds its natural outlet in the class playing together.

The Notedoro Orchestra

As the children take up instruments, the class orchestra takes shape: the Notedoro Orchestra. Those who play an instrument take their own part, and the others join in with recorders and percussion. The orchestra is a training ground in listening to one another, in patience and in respect - the difficult and beautiful art of playing together. The pieces they prepare are presented to families and to the other classes at the festivals, and the orchestra also performs outside the school.

The Notedoro Orchestra is also open to children who attend other schools and would like to take their instrument further in a stimulating group setting, rich in relationships.
